ALE Parent Empowerment Meeting

New Traditions School, the Alternative Learning Environment center for Ashdown Schools, held its annual Parent Empowerment Meeting on Monday, Oct. 27, 2008. Parents and visitors were welcomed by the ALE students and staff and led through the daily opening routine of The Pledge of Allegiance and reading of The Code of Conduct practiced at New Traditions by eighth grade students Edward Scott and Paul Harris. Sophomore Paula Harris then read an original poem to welcome the guests.

Each staff member informed all guests about what was happening in their classrooms and what parents should expect from their children. Mrs. Linda Walker, administrator of New Traditions School, recognized sophomore Mia St. Germain as Star Student of the Month.

Refreshments were served, including a hands-on activity where parents and students worked together to create a Jack-0-lantern sandwich while reading the written instructions. Students then were free to take parents and other visitors to tour the facilities and examine student artwork and classwork portfolios.
