Ashdown High School Graduates Speak at State FBLA Leadership Conference

Three Ashdown High School graduates spoke to FBLA Students at the State Leadership Conference held on April 10th at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock. Mark Jackson, Brett Jackson, and Dr. Brian Matthews represented District IV, since the FBLA District Presidents and State Vice Presidents are responsible for scheduling speakers for the conference.

Ashdown High School Math Tutors

During the 2017-2018 year, Ashdown High School had several students volunteer their time as tutors. These tutors have assisted with tutoring in the math department before and after school by being certified through the National Tutoring Association under Mrs. Stephanie Ringgold's direction.

Ashdown Students Receive Master Microsoft Office Specialist Certification

Ashdown High School students Kohl Kervin and Shakila Witherspoon recently received a Master Microsoft Office Specialist Certification in Mrs. Tipton's and Mrs. Garrison's Computerized Business Applications Class. They join Carson Jefferies and only 6 other students state wide to achieve the certification this year. In order to received this certification, they both passed a 2 part Microsoft Word Expert Exam, the Excel Exam and the Powerpoint Exam.

Dolly Parton Imagination Library Executive Director of Arkansas Speaks at Ashdown Rotary

Dr. Charlotte Green, Executive Director of the Arkansas Imagination Library was the guest speaker of Tyler Davis at the Ashdown Rotary Club on Wednesday, April 4. She spoke on what is happening on the state level to expand the Imagination Library to all 75 counties in Arkansas. A statistic she shared was that 70% of all incarcerated adults cannot read on a 4th grade level. This statistic could be reversed by only $25 per child per year to mail out one book a month.

The 11th Annual “Pulling” for Education Trap Shoot was help on Saturday, March 10 at the Rick Evans Grandview Prairie Conservation Education Center in Columbus, Arkansas. The shoot was sponsored by American Electric Power (AEP) and Farm Bureau for the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana Foundation.

Donations Given to Ashdown School District to Display National Motto

Brother Jim Cross and the Ashdown and Richmond First United Methodist Church donated money which enabled the Ashdown School District to purchase posters and frames to display “In God We Trust” in each classroom in the district. After the posters and frames were purchased, the balance was donated to the Margaret Daniel Foundation for teacher grants.

The Annual Margaret Daniel Foundation Dinner was held in the Ashdown High School Cafeteria on Saturday, February 17. The cafeteria was set for an elegant dinner of warm vichyssoise soup (Sponsored by Horatio State Bank), mixed greens with prosciutto and goat cheese (Sponsored by Cowling Title), Beef Wellington, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, and Brussel sprouts, (sponsored by RRFCU, Judge Cranford, and Red River Oil) apple rose gateau with caramel sauce and vanilla bean ice cream (Sponsored by Domtar) prepared by Chef Lois Corbell and special guest chef Jack Madden. The evening entertainment was provided by local pianists (sponsored by Trammell Piazza PLC).

Ashdown School District and Community Participate in The Polar Plunge

Students and staff from the Ashdown School District and community (including area Boy Scout Troops) participated in the Area 11 Polar Plunge benefiting Special Olympics at The Sportsplex by Healthcare Express on February 3rd. This Polar Plunge helped to raise over $12,000 for Special Olympics Arkansas. It was the coldest plunge ever!!!
